I am not into graphic designing but I’ve seen lots of cool designs and emblems or logos out there and to have something like this for our government is totally not cool!
Here’s DOT’s new logo for its local “Tara Na” campaign which aims to let people know and experience the myriad of festivals we have all-year round. The campaign is really good and is targeted towards us Filipinos but the accompanying logo is not.
First of all, the logo was mediocre. It reminded me of old 80’s kiddie shows that I cannot point my finger on. Maybe Batibot? Go-bots? Or Pinoy Komiks? It looks like a poster for one of those small-time passenger ships. The design is really outdated and using the three modes of transportation as design elements won’t make me want to travel around the country. And the bland colors? The people who did this need some lesson in modern color mixing.
Sigh, Filipinos are creative people. We have a LOT of creative designers here and it would be a shame if tourists would think this is what we’re only capable of when they see an official tourism campaign logo.
This official logo was done by Smart and Perceptions Inc. and didn’t cost D.O.T. a single cent. But please, maybe if you ask Team Manila nicely, they could do you a better one also for free.
