Philippine football team ‘Azkals’ defeated Bangladesh ‘Bengal Tigers’ with a sweet victory 3-0 on Friday. The win has made the Philippine Team in the final 8 of the AFC Challenge Cup 2012.

According to ABS-CBN Sports, “Filipino-Spanish striker Angel Aldeguer Guirado was a revelation for the Azkals after scoring 2 goals in the second half of the game taking place at the Aung San Stadium.”

“Guirado’s first goal came early in the second half after heading in a shot from Ian Araneta. He followed this up by striking another goal in the in the 80th minute.”

The 2012 AFC Challenge Cup is the fourth edition of the tournament. The winners will qualify for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.

With the score of 1 -2, Philippine Azkals failed to win the game versus Mongolia’s Blue Wolves, but the PHL Azkals still advances to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup group stage.

By virtue of the Azkals’ winning the tie, 3-2, on goal aggregate during the second round of their 2-leg qualifier match that took place at the Mongolian Football Federation (MFF) Football Centre in Ulan Bator, the Philippine sensational football team’s quest for glory continues.

In yesterday’s match in Mongolia which was aired by Studio 23, the Philippines took an early lead when James Younghusband hit a goal in the third minute of their match but Mongolia pulled one back in 21st minute through their skipper, Lumbengarav Donorov.

Mongolia sealed the win after Garidmagnai Bayasgalan scored again on the rebound off penalty during the 34th minute of the game.

The PHL Azkals will face Myanmar next on March 21, and will try to compete against the team from Palestine on March 23 and then a match against Bangladesh on March 25.
